Abstract— In India construction is the second largest industry, after agriculture. There are numerous challenges and problems facing the construction industry. The main criterion for success of any construction project is to deliver the project without time or cost overrun within the required quality. Hence this paper deals with the identification of different factors affecting project duration and to implement a program to determine the probability of delay occurrence. The present study was carried out to find out the factors that affect the project duration by using questionnaire survey which was filled by professionals in the construction industry. Using fuzzy logic and relative importance index methods, the obtained data were analyzed and the results were verified accordingly. Depending upon the weightage given to each factor the probability of delay occurrence was carried out using MATLAB. Recommendations also made to reduce the delay occurrence. The model was checked by different firms, which gives more reliability for the acceptance of the model. This study helps to manage the time by implementing the model within the project schedule and thereby reducing the problems due delay occurrence.
